How to write a story outline
It tells the story from beginning to end, without dialogue. Who the protagonist is (if there is one), what happens, how it ends.
What has to be in an outline?
The story, plain and bare. This is not the moment to add your own flourishes, because the producer isn't interested. All you have to do is tell the story in the catchiest way possible, so that whoever reads it stays glued to the page.
How is it written?
In the present tense and in the third person. No dialogue!
You write what can be seen and what happens, plainly, sometimes in very short sentences. No technical directions.
Three to ten pages.
The mistakes that get it rejected
An outline is not a summary: you have to manage to tell me everything, clearly and compellingly.
Before the outline itself, put the title, the running time, the genre and your name :)
